Weiss Estrelaint

Born to a hyur woman and an elezen man, Weiss went through most of his childhood travelling with his mother, never staying in one place for longer than necessary. His mother, ever the curious character, taught him everything she herself was well versed in, from alchemy to the ways of both black and white magic. At his fifteenth summer however, he was kicked away from home, as his mother believed that she had nothing left to teach him and he should carve his own path in life. One of her last gifts to him being the two tritelia earrings he always wears, before they parted ways.In the time he spent in Ul'dah, he would further hone his magic and alchemy skills by joining the various guilds there, especially the black mage guild. Through his growing interest in the void, Weiss would gather all the information he could find in how to open voidgates. Due to the practice itself being forbidden and generally illegal in the region, he would recluse himself to secret spaces so as to carry out the practice as safely as possible. Despite all of the cautionary measures taken, he still released a substantial amount of aether hungry beings into the source. Due to this, Ul'dan authorities and locals banded together and burned down his lodge, causing a lot of his research to be lost forever. Weiss, both due to the guilt of what he did and and feeling broken, eventually left Ul'dah, but had hope that one day he would be able to continue his research on the void.Of the several fiends he had released into the source, one of them took a liking to him and would follow everywhere. When confronted, the being asked to form a pact with him and even permitted him to carry out experiments on it, in exchange for his aether. This being, despite not remembering anything of it's own past life, would eventually start referring to himself as Rupert, and would accompany Weiss from there on.
